Ottawa is full of gorgeous outdoor locations that make the perfect backdrop for family, maternity, and a variety of fun-filled MINI sessions. Over the years, I’ve explored so many incredible spots, and I wanted to share some of my personal favorites! Whether you love lush greenery, peaceful water views, or vibrant floral backdrops, there’s a spot that’s just right for your session.
A few favorites:
1. Black Rapids Lock station
The Black Rapids Lock station is one of those places that always recommend - and is easily one of my favorite spots. As an Ottawa family photographer, I love areas that feel easy, natural, and full of quiet beauty — and this one has so many beautiful backdrops, especially as the sun is going down.
Tucked along the Rideau River just outside of Barrhaven, it offers tall grasses, winding pathways, and the calm river views. Everything is close by, which makes sessions feel relaxed and effortless.

2. Ornamental Gardens
If you love flowers, this spot is a dream! The gardens change with the seasons, from lilacs in spring to colorful summer blooms and rich fall foliage. It’s a beautiful choice for soft, elegant portraits. As an Ottawa family photographer, I often capture families in this picturesque setting. While it can often be quite busy, especially in prime blooming seasons, there are always some tucked away little areas that I like to use and incorporate as many flowers as I can.

3. Britannia Beach
A sunset session at Britannia Beach offers a beautiful and relaxed setting for family photos. As the sun sets over the Ottawa River, the golden light reflects off the water, creating a warm and natural glow. The open sky, sandy shoreline, and calm surroundings make it an ideal spot for easygoing, genuine moments—perfect for family cuddles, playful interactions, and timeless portraits. It’s a simple but striking location that works especially well in the evening light.

Tucked in the rural south end of Ottawa, this charming, historic spot is full of character and beauty at every turn. As a family photographer, I love using this location for its unique mix of rustic charm and natural scenery. The old stone mill, the picturesque bridge, and the lush greenery create a timeless backdrop that’s perfect for capturing meaningful family moments. Whether you're after a relaxed, nature-filled session or something with a bit of storybook charm, this quiet gem offers a setting that truly stands out.

5. Hidden Gems
While the popular spots in Ottawa are always stunning and provide beautiful backdrops for family portraits, I also have a few secret locations tucked away that are perfect for a more private and unique session.
